ANTI RAGGING MEASURES AT JSS S&T University
Some of the measures undertaken at JSS STU to prevent ragging- on and off the campus.
What constitutes ragging?
Ragging essentially is any conduct by any student or students by words or by action that has an effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher causing a sense of shame or torment or humiliation or embarrassment to the student.
JSS STU being a private institution has laid strict rules and regulations to curb the menace of ragging as directed by the hon’ble Supreme Court of India, University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council of Technical Education. (AICTE)
The following measures are in place at JSS STU for tackling the menace of ragging:
Formation of Anti Ragging Committee and Anti Ragging Squads:

An anti-ragging committee and anti-ragging squads consisting of the Principal, Vice principal, senior professors along with the administrative staff, Warden, resident wardens and assistant wardens, Student welfare officer (SWO) has been formed to ensure that the fresher’s are not being pushed to any harassment in the name of ragging either in the college premises or in the Hostels.

The anti-ragging squad will conduct Surprise visits to the rooms and in the hostel to check the activities of ragging if any and prevent them regularly both during the day time as well as during the night.

Specific anti-ragging squads are set up to go around the campus during working hours of the college daily.

Hostel level anti-ragging squads are formed in both the boys and Girls Hostel.

In addition, Anti-Ragging Review committee is also in place .The committee consists of the principal, senior professors and heads of various departments, the AO, Vice-president and General secretary of the JSS STU students council. This committee also has the local area Police Inspector as a member. This committee meets every week to review the anti-ragging activities.

Boards and hoardings are put up around the campus to exhort the students not to indulge in ragging and also indicating there in the names of all the officials and their telephone numbers to be contacted in case of ragging.
Ragging is considered a serious offence and also a disgrace to the student community. It is mandatory to refrain from ragging in any minor or major form whatsoever.
In every single incident of ragging a First Information Report (FIR) will be filed without exception by the institutional authorities with the local police.
If any student is found involved in the act of ragging the institutional authorities will take strict measures against such students which may also include the termination from the course or expulsion from college depending on the gravity of the offence.
SJCE has a zero tolerance towards ragging of any form. Prevention and prohibition of ragging is essentially the responsibility of every educational institution and it is also the obligation of every student of the college. All the students are hereby requested to join hands in creating a ragging free zone and make this institute a better place for learning.
CULTURAL AND LITERARY ACTIVITIES AT JSS S&T University
The institution has always stood for the right amalgamation of academic and extra-curricular activities.
To foster the cultural talent of the students – A state level cultural extravaganza JAYCIANA was started in 1981.
It is a very popular event in KARNATAKA and is spread over 3 days. This gives a platform for the students to showcase their talent in singing, dancing, mono acting etc. to mention a few.
Apart from the student performances, popular and celebrity artistes come and perform at JAYCIANA like Mr SHANKAR MAHADEVAN and the AKCENT BAND and Bollywood singer JONITHA GANDHI to name a few.
SHABD is an annual literary extravaganza organized by the SJCE Editorial Board in celebration of creativity. It is a place where the best creative minds come together and showcase their talent. The two day festival is filled with exciting events to tap the latent imagination and the power of expression among the student community.
The SAMSKRUTHI cultural forum provides a platform for students who are interested in fine arts, literary events, dramatics, dance, music etc.
The magazine of the college is a reflection of the creativity of the students involved in multifarious activities. The editorial board brings out the college magazine –JAYZINE-which provides an opportunity for the students to bring their literary and creative talents.
In addition, the college has a music club which is very popular among the students. In association with SPIC MACAY several artistes have come and performed over the years. Other popular clubs include the adventure club, the photography club, short movies club etc.
Students are encouraged to participate in intercollegiate competitions and annual cultural festivals like VTU Festival and some of the national level festivals organized by the IITs. In fact our college emerged as the overall champions in 2013 VTU festival held in Bangalore where 120 colleges participated.
A large number of student’s have participated and won prizes in various cultural and literary activities across the country.
All the students are requested to participate in large numbers in various events for which ample opportunities are provided by the institution.
