Dr. G. P. Chandradhara and Prof. H. P. Thanu of Department of Construction Technology & Management coordinated in organising a special lecture on “Statistics for Project Management” by Mrs.Amrutha A K, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Christ College, Mysuru for Post Graduate students of Infrastructure Engineering and Management, and faculties of Construction Technology and Management on 21.12.2018 and 04.01.2019.
In her first lecture Professor Amrutha described about the basics of statistics, the properties and various scales of statistical measurement. Moving ahead, she elaborated about the process and various types of data collection and how to prepare a proper questionnaire survey to obtain the desired results for the study. She elaborated on how to decide the sample size and how to validate the questionnaire survey questions.
In her second lecture, she further proceeded with different ways to analyse and organise the obtained data from the survey. She explained in detail about the descriptive and the inferential statistics method of analysing the data and she further briefed about the correlation and regression analysis for the organised data. She explained in detail about the factor analysis of statistics which is used to describe the variability among the observed, correlated variables in terms of potentially lower number of unobserved variables called factors. She concluded her lecture by explaining the usage of statistical analysis software namely SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).
The lecture has proven to be very informative for the students and faculties by giving exposure to wide aspect about the importance of statistics in the field of construction technology and management and specifically for carrying out PG Dissertation works.
