Post Event Report: Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) of JSS Science and Technology University organized an Ideathon 2019 program recently as a mark of National Science Day. The occasion was graced by the Director of CSIR – CFTRI, Dr. K S M S Raghava Rao, Chief Guest and Prof. BG Sangameshwara, Vice Chancellor of JSS STU presided the program. Dr. Mallikarjuna Aradhya, President – IIC, Dr. B S Harish, Convener – IIC and Mr. Murugendra Bandrad, Student Coordinator and other distinguished dignitaries were present.

The event began by invoking the blessings of lord Ganesha and lighting the lamp. Following which, Dr. B S Harish, Convenor of IIC, formally welcomed the gathering. He briefed about Institution’s Innovation Council and its vision of developing a vibrant local ecosystem to encourage and support innovative ideas. After which, the President of IIC took it upon himself to introduce his former colleague and chief guest of the evening, Dr. KSMS Raghava Rao. Later on, Ms. Rashi Modi, core team member of IIC, further highlighted the significance of National Science Day, Mr. Murugendra Bandrad, Student Coordinator of IIC, appraised the gathering about the value of ideas and unravelled the motivation behind organizing Ideathon 2019.

The crowd witnessed an inspiring speech by the chief guest. He shared stories of great innovators, their hardships and achievements, gaining applauses from the audience. Students of JSS STU, Ms. Riya Ramesh and Ms. Anusha B presented their artwork to felicitate the chief guest and vice chancellor respectively.

The council received around 65 Novel Ideas from the students of different departments. Prizes for Ideathon were announced and three ideas were chosen out of 13 shortlisted ones by the jury. First prize was awarded to ‘Army Tracker’ by Mr. PavanNayak R. He proposed the usage of local network instead of using GMS GPS module in tracking device for national security purpose. He was awarded with Rs. 10000/- and a Certificate of Appreciation. Second prize went to ‘Smart Glasses for Specially Abled’ by Mr. Kartikeya Jois, Mr. Arun Louis and Mr. K S Rakshit. They came up with an innovative idea of converting speech into visual display on special glasses to aide communication with hearing-impaired individuals. The team received Rs. 5000/- as cash prize and Certificate of Appreciation. Third prize was given to ‘Smart Travel’ by Mr. Shrihari Bharadwaj, Mr. Rohit A R and Mr. Sumanth Mahishi, they formulated the developmentof round maps for multiple locations to ease navigation. The team received Rs. 3000/- as cash prize and Certificate of Appreciation.

Finally, vote of thanks to the people responsible for the successful completion of the event was delivered by Mr. Adarsh.R, core team member, IIC.
